STONINGTON, ME -- Stonington Sea Products, www.stoningtonseafood.com producer of gourmet smoked seafood, has been selected by the National Association of the Specialty Food Trade (NASFT) as a finalist in two categories in the 2003 Annual Product Awards competition.

Smoked Mussels Salsa was chosen as a finalist in the Outstanding Best Seller 2002 category. Smoked Atlantic Salmon was chosen as a finalist in the Outstanding Meat, Paté or Seafood category.

"Maine is known for having the best seafood in the world," said Richard Penfold, general manager of Stonington Sea Products. "It's a significant achievement receiving national recognition by the people who know food best - the specialty food retailers."

The NASFT Annual Product Awards competition is held each summer to honor truly outstanding specialty foods -- the best of the best. The competition, which is judged by Specialty Food Retailers, is open to all members of the NASFT. An elite eight-person NASFT panel selected the finalists. Winners will be chosen by almost 100 Specialty Food Retailers across the United States, who will cast their ballots at the Summer Fancy Food show at the Jacob Javits Center in New York on June 29.

The Smoked Mussels Salsa is in a particularly competitive yet highly prestigious category. The Bestseller category is more competitive because it is not restricted to a particular type of food. Foods from all categories can be entered into this category. Additionally, products in this category have to be nominated by a member of the elite panel. All other product categories are self-entry by the manufacturers.
